Appointments

Appointments

Routine appointments can be booked either by phone or in person at the surgery. We will endeavor to give you an appointment with a GP within five to seven working days however this cannot be guaranteed. Some appointments can be booked online or we may send you a text with a link to book specific appointment types.

Wellington Practice works with an extended specialised clinical team which includes GPs, Practice Nurses, Paramedics and Pharmacists. Appointments are available mornings and afternoons. We have a limited number of urgent on the day appointments available and these will be assessed by our Pre-Triage system. We no longer encourage calling at 8am to reduce the peak demand at the same time.  All requests for appointments are screened and /or triaged no matter what time you call.

Appointments booked more than 2 weeks in advance cause an increase in patients not attending however especially for nurse appointments this is often needed. We would be grateful if when making an appointment more than 2 weeks in advances you do make a note in your diary to ensure you do not miss the appointment. If you are booking a routine follow-up appointment, you can do this up to two weeks in advance.

Some routine appointments for Doctors are available to book online using your online app (NHS app or Patient Online Access).

Many routine appointments are for those patients who require regular monitoring of a chronic or long term condition. We will let you know when your appointment is due probably by text to keep costs down and speed up the process.  Sometimes we may have to revert to paper post.

Urgent cases are assessed by our Pre-Triage system and if deemed urgent you will be seen the same day. If you feel you require an urgent appointment please contact us as soon as required.

Routine telephone appointments are also available with the doctors. If you wish to speak to a doctor or nurse on the phone we will take down your details and refer to the clinician for advice.

The surgery is particularly busy on Mondays, especially during the winter months. If your appointment is not urgent please try and book on a less busy day.

If we can’t offer you an immediate appointment, a member of the Clinical Team may call you back after 12pm. He or she will ring you on the telephone number we have on your medical record. If you are only available on a mobile phone then please ensure that you give us your mobile number.

If your condition deteriorates you should telephone the surgery again or contact 111.

Home Visits – Paramedic Home Visiting

If possible please try to telephone reception before 11:00 AM if you require a home visit.

You may only request a home visit if you are permanently housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Our home visits are carried out by qualified Paramedics who will visit you following an assessment by your GP.

You can be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You may also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years but we cannot guarantee that as they will have their own criteria for home visits.
